After completing a well-organized transition period, Carlos Sotillos has been appointed as the new President of BDO in Spain, succeeding Alfonso Osorio, who is stepping down after 20 years as the President of the Firm, but will remain connected to the organization as first President of the newly created BDO Foundation.

Carlos Sotillos has dedicated his professional career to auditing. In 1989, he joined the Firm after working for the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT), where he gained entry through a competitive public selection process. In 2005, he was appointed as an audit partner, taking on various responsibilities, including the management of BDO's office in Valladolid, serving as the managing partner of the Madrid office. Since 2017 he has been the National Director of Auditing for the Firm in Spain, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of BDO Auditores.

With extensive professional experience, Carlos Sotillos holds a degree in Economics and Business Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Spain (ICJCE) and the Official Spanish Registry of Auditors (ROAC). Additionally, he holds the title of Expert in Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism from the Foundation of Financial Studies, as well as the title of Expert in Civil and Commercial Mediation from the University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid).

For nine years, Alfonso Osorio was part of the European Council (EMEA) of BDO International, representing Spain and several firms in Southern Europe, contributing to the growth and expansion of BDO's global network. Alfonso Osorio will now take on the presidency of the BDO Foundation in Spain, where he will continue his mission of promoting the Firm’s values and spearhead its Compliance and Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, striving for professional excellence and a commitment to creating added value for society.

As of 2022, the BDO network has achieved a turnover of 12.8 billion dollars globally, with more than 111,000 professionals spread across the 164 countries where the firm currently operates.
